Livingston Parish Fire Protection District Four hosts hurricane preparedness seminar

Local Meteorologist Jay Grymes gives forecast for 2017 hurricane season

The Livingston Parish Fire Protection District 4 (LPFPD4) hosted a hurricane preparedness seminar for emergency response personnel  Tuesday, April 4 at the Walker Baptist Church.

WAFB-TV Channel 9 Meteorologist Jay Grymes spoke to participants about the upcoming Atlantic hurricane season, which begins June 1. Grymes shared lessons learned from past hurricanes that have impacted the parish and encouraged first responders in their continuing hurricane preparedness training.

“Our parish has had more than its share of weather emergencies during the past year,” said LPFPD4 Fire Chief James Wascom. “We’re hoping for an uneventful 2017 hurricane season, but if storms do threaten Livingston Parish, we want to make sure our first responders are trained and ready.”

“We had excellent attendance at the seminar,” said Wascom. “More than 40 local agencies came out to hear Mr. Grymes. Their participation demonstrates their commitment to public safety as we approach hurricane season.”
