Fire Prevention

Prevention is our best strategy.

Through fire safety education, code enforcement, and pre-incident planning, we work proactively to reduce emergency risks in our community. Our firefighters conduct business inspections, develop emergency response plans for critical facilities, and provide fire safety education to schools and community groups.

Fire Prevention & Safety Tips

Through fire safety education, free smoke alarms, and community outreach programs, the LPFPD4 aims to ensure the safety of all Livingston Parish residents.

Fire Safety & Education

Each year, the LPFPD4 responds to over 5,600 calls, 13% of which are fire-related.  You can always count on us to be there to put out a fire, but we hope that you won’t need us to!

We have prepared some resources to help reduce the risk of having a fire in your home.  Nearly all fires are preventable.  With your help, we can protect the citizens of Livingston Parish.

LPFPD4 offers a variety of fire safety presentations and training sessions for groups of all ages.

Please contact us if you have a group you would like us to address.

Fire Smoke House

The Livingston Parish Fire Protection District 4 Fire Smoke House has made numerous appearances at local schools, daycare centers, and even birthday parties. It is a valuable tool used in teaching children how to respond in the event of a fire. For example, children learn what to expect and how to react if the room or building fills with smoke. The Fire Smoke House is equipped with a system that simulates a fire emergency by filling the interior with “safe smoke.” Participants learn how to safely crawl through the house to safety.

Inspections

In 2019, the Livingston Parish Fire Protection District 4 created a Fire Prevention Bureau to assist the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office with code compliance, as well as to provide and public fire safety education to the District. LPFPD4 hired a full-time Fire Prevention Officer who is responsible for leading and managing all public fire prevention activities, inspections, and investigations.

The Fire Prevention Bureau conducts fire and life safety inspections on an annual basis. The inspection process is intended to assist proprietors and property owners in preventing potential loss from fire and other safety risks by identifying and informing the occupants of what is needed to comply with code requirements.

All inspections are at no charge to the property or business owner and will be conducted at a reasonable time while the business is open.

The Fire Prevention Bureau Officer Matt Gallman can be contacted at (225) 664-7123 or by email at fireprevention@lpfpd4.com to schedule an inspection during normal business hours.
