LPFPD4 Selects Blount General Contractors for New $3.4 Million Fire Station

Livingston Parish Fire Protection District 4 (LPFPD4) has awarded a public contract to Blount General Contractors for construction of a new fire station on Satsuma Road, located south of North Oaks Hospital. The $3.4 million project is part of a multi-year capital improvement plan funded by the millage renewal approved by voters in 2022.

The new Station 11 will expand LPFPD4’s coverage area to better serve district residents. The department acquired 0.88 acres from the Livingston Parish School Board in 2018 specifically for this purpose.

“The new three-bay station will reduce response times by shortening the distance between fire stations and residential properties,” said Fire Chief James Wascom. “This improved coverage may contribute to a better fire rating for the department, which could result in lower insurance premiums for area residents.”

LPFPD4 collaborated with + One Design and Quality Engineering and Surveying to design the approximate 8,000 square-foot station with interior support facilities and related site development. The facility is designed to meet growing community needs and will house specialized equipment for future airport operations.

Construction will begin in summer 2025, with the fire station apparatus bays built first, followed by living quarters. The facility will operate 24/7 with one firefighter on duty at all times, supported by volunteer firefighters.

“This project demonstrates our commitment to being responsible stewards of the millage funds voters approved in 2023. Every dollar is being invested wisely to improve emergency response times and better serve our residents. We don’t take this trust lightly – we’re here to serve the people of Livingston Parish, and this new station directly advances that mission,” said Robert Dugas, LPFPD4 Board Chairman.
