A Milestone for Fire Service in Livingston Parish

Livingston Parish Fire Protection District 4 proudly hosted its first Firefighter Recruit Academy graduation. For the first time, a dedicated class of six local recruits has officially completed a rigorous program designed to prepare them for the challenges and responsibilities of fire service.

Dedication and Training: Building the Foundation

Over the past several months, members of this pioneering class have poured their energy, determination, and passion into mastering the skills and knowledge required for service. The curriculum covered all aspects of modern firefighting, including fire suppression, rescue operations, and emergency medical response. This program was created not just to meet professional standards, but to set them for years to come in Livingston Parish.

The commitment shown by each recruit underscores what it means to protect and serve, and their perseverance marks the beginning of a legacy for future firefighters in our district.

Honoring the Graduates: Class 1

The ceremony also featured the long-standing tradition of family members pinning badges to the new firefighters’ uniforms—an emotional and meaningful rite of passage:

  • Sean Deen – pinned by wife Kay-La Deen
  • Hunter Ferrell – pinned by wife Olivia Ferrell
  • Mark Lennox – pinned by father, Battalion Chief Timothy Lennox
  • Cole Miller – pinned by father, Captain Aaron Miller
  • Andrew Watts – pinned by father, Captain Phil Watts
  • Sarah Weaver – pinned by mother, Deborah Weaver

Each graduate represents the foundation of what will become a proud tradition in Livingston Parish: the graduation of homegrown firefighters fully prepared to answer the call to duty.

Community and Leadership: Partnerships Make It Possible

A heartfelt thank you goes to Parish President Randy Delatte, who addressed the graduates with inspiring words about leadership, service, and the importance of community support. The continued partnership with the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, which generously provided their facility for the ceremony, also highlights the collaborative spirit that drives our first responder network.

The event was further supported by instructors, district firefighters, dedicated volunteers, and the families who stood beside the recruits every step of the way. This graduation is as much a celebration of their efforts and sacrifices as it is of each recruit’s achievements.

Looking Ahead: The First of Many

As Livingston Parish Fire Protection District 4 reflects on this historic day, gratitude is extended to everyone who has helped make this milestone possible. With the first class of new firefighters now officially serving, the district has set a new standard and laid the groundwork for future academies—and future guardians of our community.
