USER FEE RENEWAL VOTE June 27, 2026

NOT A NEW TAX

WHY THIS RENEWAL MATTERS

On June 27, 2026, voters in District 4 will be asked to renew the existing $32 per household User Fee. This fee has remained unchanged since 1996, but our parish has grown significantly since then, bringing more homes, more businesses, and more emergency calls. That is why this renewal matters — it helps ensure your fire district has the resources needed to protect your family, your property, and your community.

This renewal is not a new tax; it is a continuation of a long-standing local funding source that supports firefighters, equipment, fire stations, and emergency response readiness. These funds help keep response times strong and allow the district to continue delivering reliable service as Livingston Parish grows. A yes vote helps protect the people and places that matter most.

THE REALITY OF OUR GROWING DISTRICT

  • Growing service area: LPFPD4 covers 225 square miles, including the municipalities of Walker and Port Vincent, and protects an estimated population of 60,312 residents and 24,125 households, with increasing demand for fire protection.
  • Limited staffing and budget: The district operates with far fewer personnel and less funding than many comparable fire departments.
  • Delayed revenue from growth: New development increases calls for service immediately, but new tax revenue often comes much later.
  • Essential funding source: The $32 user fee helps bridge that gap and supports day-to-day operations, staffing, equipment, and response readiness.
  • Community impact: Renewing the fee helps ensure the district can continue protecting homes, businesses, and residents as Livingston Parish grows.

“LPFPD4 continues to serve a growing district with a funding structure that does not keep pace with development. New construction increases demand for fire protection immediately, but revenue tied to that growth is delayed until properties are occupied and placed on the tax rolls. As a result, the district often provides service long before it receives the full financial benefit of that growth. The renewal of the $32 user fee is absolutely necessary for District 4 to operate and the Union supports it 100 percent.”
